Buns, guns & insurrection: the story of Martin’s Potato Rolls

A report by Capital and Main says that the Chairman of Martin's Famous Potato Rolls, which provides buns for Shake Shack, supports Doug Mastriano, the right-wing candidate for governor of Pennsylvania. But there’s much more to the story: Jim Martin is also a major supporter of the NRA and other members of the Martin family also support extremist politics.

Campaign contribution records show that Jim Martin has given more than $13,000 to the NRA and has tens of thousands to Republican politicians who are election-deniers. Meanwhile, Joe Martin, Jackie Martin and Donna Martin have given thousands to right-wing politicians.

Yet Martin's claims that the family members "hold a wide range of views."

Contributions by Martin's owner/chair Jim Martin include:

  • $13,000 to the NRA.

  • $110,000 to Mastriano (he breached the barricades on Jan. 6).

  • $49k to Rep John Joyce (he signed an amicus brief contesting Biden's election).

  • $19k to Donald Trump.

Right-wing contributions by other family members include:

  • Donna Martin: $55,000 to Trump, Mastriano, Joyce, former U.S. Rep. Michelle Bachmann and others.

  • Jackie Martin: $29,000 to Mastriano, former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum, and others.

  • Joe Martin: thousands to former U.S. Senators David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler.

Remarkably, even after Jan. 6 and horrible mass shootings in Uvalde, Buffalo and so many other places, Shake Shack is sticking with the Buns, Guns and Insurrection family. But don't worry - the company promises that they're having "active conversations w/ Martin's."
